This is a must read for any current or future dog owner.
I am a huge fan of Cesar Milan and his realistic and effective approach to dogs.
I believe, he is one of the very few popular dog trainers who propagate an appropriate attitude to dogs and owner/dog relationship. Many trainers reinforce the faulty attitude of people who believe that dogs are like little children or little furry humans. It leads to people imposing human feelings, mentality and attitude onto their K9 companions. The result is neurotic and uncontrolled dogs, frustrated and unhappy dog owners, dog bites, and shelters full of ruined and miserable dogs.
This book is not a training guide. While it has exercises and methods for training your puppy, the most important part of it is the methodology and practical philosophy of dog ownership and relationship with a dog. Cesar demonstrates how to build a healthy attitude towards a dog and how to establish a relationship that will be satisfying and beneficial for a life time.
I’ve been a dog person my whole life and have had experience in training, raising and owning few dogs. Never the less, I found myself realizing mistakes I’ve made before and learning a more effective approach to raising and living with a dog.
I wish this book was a mandatory (legally required) read for any and every dog owner 🙂
